The speaker line up for the Good for the World Open Days at Techweek’18 is shaping up to be an innovation star-studded affair...

The two-day event begins with Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, who will open the Meet the UpStarters session when she launches the New Zealand technology and innovation story in a very novel way — as a hologram.

Ardern will 'beam' into the ASB Waterfront Theatre to outline why innovation is an important part of New Zealand's future, and then 'beam' out again to make way for an incredible line-up of inspiring UpStarters.

When:
9am-12pm, Mon 21 May
Where:

Peter Beck, New Zealand’s own rocket man will then take to the stage to the tell his own UpStarter story — from building a rocket prototype in a Parnell basement to launching one into space from the first place in the world to see the sun.

Iain Hosie from Revolution Fibres and Mat Rowe from Dotterel are two founders from companies on diverse trajectories within the innovation ecosystem. Revolution Fibres are world-leading experts in the field of electrospinning nanofibre, and Dotterel are a company whose drone noise reduction and audio enablement technology has cross-sector applications from cinematography to surveillance. Hear the story of how collaboration has made both of their businesses stronger.

Vic Crone, CEO of Callaghan Innovation will lead a conversation with a new generation of UpStarters ‑ David Woods from Precision Seafood Harvesting, Timothy Allan of Ubco and Emma Parsons of Agrigate.

Attendees will then depart the theatre for locations all over the city, where innovative businesses will open their doors to host talks, panels and workshops on a range on tech topics — from blockchain to artificial intelligence, from design thinking to the future of work.
