Intellectual Property registration plays a vital part in owning your ideas. The value of intangible assets like IP, now exceeds the value of tangible assets for the first time in history.
This session is perfect for anyone dreaming up a new trade mark for a service or business. A new tool that searches logos and wordmarks with a few clicks on your phone is in beta form. Test out your ideas live and canvas the steps to register your idea as IP.
You can drop into this event at any time.
Tim Renner champions a programme that builds new business’ and entrepreneurs’ engagement with Intellectual Property, as an asset. With a national focus, you may meet him in sessions around the country, discussing IP ownership with start-ups or come across his work which makes IP ownership more accessible. At the moment he is part of the team developing Trade Mark Check and is caught up in shared initiatives with government and corporate partners to connect the dots between IP and the New Zealand innovation ecology.
Senior Trade Mark Examiner Gina Choi lives and breathes trade marks and trade mark applications and loves opportunities to discuss trade marks (both the good and the bad). Gina recently came back from a short stint in the dark side, otherwise known as private legal practice. She enjoys working from home because of all the eco-friendly benefits, including but not limited to not having to sit in rush-hour Auckland traffic on her way to and from the office. Outside work, she is a perpetual traveller, exploring the world or the internet researching her next destination.
Gaby is the Biotech Patents Team Leader at IPONZ. After studying Biochemistry in Bristol, UK, she joined the UK IPO in 2007 and over the next 10 years worked on a range of inventions including coat hangers, medical implants, soul transplantation (yes, really) and genetic engineering. Gaby took a sabbatical in 2017 and mostly taught kids how to ski backwards at Coronet Peak, New Zealand, before joining IPONZ as a senior patent examiner. Gaby’s preferred habitat is anywhere that serves coffee and cake with a view, particularly if she’s had to cycle, run or hike to get to it!
