While we can’t expect to compete at the same scale, New Zealand can carve its own position globally. The panel will discuss how New Zealand can build its unique brand in the global AI market so that we can cultivate a thriving local AI ecosystem and diverse workforce.

Emma Naji

Executive Director - AI Forum

Emma is the Executive Director of the AI Forum; a not-for-profit member driven organisation working to nurture the New Zealand AI ecosystem. Emma is a member of the OECD ONE.AI network of experts and an expert member of the Global Partnership on AI, Innovation and Commercialisation working group. As a computer scientist, Emma firmly believes in the potential of AI to benefit all of society, while recognising the challenges that must be navigated. She is a strong advocate of New Zealand’s economic opportunity to produce world leading AI, and works to champion mindful, collaborative and ethical AI. Emma has a 22-year entrepreneurial career spanning tech and AI including one of the first commercial drone companies in the UK and multiple AI start-ups in New Zealand.

Hayley Horan

Trade Commissioner, Singapore - NZTE

Hayley leads New Zealand Trade and Enterprise’s Global Tech Sector as part of the Sector & Coalitions team. She joined NZTE in 2015 as a Customer Manager, before taking up a secondment as Trade and Commercial Adviser based in Dubai. Most recently, Hayley was New Zealand’s Trade Commissioner to Singapore, where she spent time growing the tech sector.

Prior to joining NZTE, Hayley held senior sales, product development and marketing roles in Ireland, UK and New Zealand, including leading Z Energy’s first corporation start up Fuelwise.

Hayley has held a number of directorships in both private and not for profit sectors. She has a strong background in executive coaching and was Managing Director of Good to Great Business and Executive Coaching and Peoplepower Strategic Sales Training Academy.

Eduard is passionate about exploring and finding real-world applications for emerging technologies. Having lived and worked in Vienna, Wellington, Frankfurt, London, Gibraltar, and now Christchurch, he brings international thinking and experience to all his endeavours.

As AI, Machine Learning and Data become increasingly important to organisations, Eduard enjoys making the use of these technologies more approachable and interesting to the wider public.
