What's it all about?

The world of work is arguably facing its biggest challenges since World War 2. The impact of COVID-19 globally has caused havoc. While we go about our daily business in New Zealand relatively COVID-free, the impact on international borders has meant a re-think of traditional talent attraction and retention.  

This virtual session will consider what this means for attracting and recruiting global talent into NZ businesses, how long we are likely to have limited or no international mobility in and out of New Zealand and how that will shape the New Zealand workforce over the next 3-5 years.  

The World Economic Forum in an October 2020 Future of Jobs Report predicts that 50% of all employees will need reskilling by 2025 as adoption of technology increases. Identifying and anticipating skills gaps within the tech sector and thinking strategically about how to fill them within our own borders is becoming key again. Through interviews and Q&A with industry experts and practitioners, we will consider the case for taking different approaches to both re-skilling and retaining experienced workers, and growing our young and diverse tech talent through graduate programmes.
