Overcoming Barriers to Working in the NZ Tech Sector

From creating new roles to advocating for success, join Absolute IT’s GM Steve Cotton and The Work Collective’s GM Donna Lynch as they discuss:

- Ways of overcoming barriers to working in the NZ tech industry

- How to tap into a pool of young candidates in a skills and talent-short market

- Ways to bridge the gap between youth/students/graduates and entry level opportunities

- How to make a positive social impact and support diversity and inclusion in the tech sector, with a focus on youth in the Māori and Pasifika communities

There will be light snacks and drinks provided for networking following the discussion.

Steve Cotton

General Manager

With over twenty years of IT recruitment experience, Steve joined the Absolute IT team in 2004 and hasn't  looked back. His role as National General Manager is to lead the team across New Zealand, who are committed to making a difference for their candidates and clients and keeping Absolute IT as New Zealand’s IT recruitment partner of choice.

Steve is passionate about people and the role that people play in the industry. The “He Tāngata” proverb has always held a special resonance for him:

What is the most important thing in the world?

He tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata – It is the people, it is the people, it is the people

Having stumbled into IT recruitment by accident over twenty years ago, Steve has never failed to be amazed by the difference technology makes in our everyday lives and the phenomenal impact it has on the New Zealand economy. "I believe that there is the opportunity for generational change for the better through the kiwi tech industry and am excited by our role in supporting this change."
